I started blogging for the first time in 2008 with a blog hosted on WordPress.com. I didn’t know what I was doing and I had no intention of making it a career, a money-maker, or a profitable hobby. It was just something to do and it didn’t last very long.
I started a new blog in 2010. It was a book blog and I loved it. I read hundreds of books and I blogged about them all, good or bad. It was fun and I made a lot of great blogging friends but I made one huge mistake. I hosted on Weebly.
In 2014 I started Far Beyond Love and I made yet another hosting mistake. I hosted on GoDaddy but after 6 months I migrated and now I host my blog on A Small Orange.
Many people have asked me why I left GoDaddy and all I can simply say is this: It was awful.
Everything about GoDaddy was awful. I never had a good experience with them and I regretted hosting with them almost immediately. If I have to call out one thing specifically it is that I didn’t have access to my cPanel. If you don’t know what cPanel is then don’t fret much about it but if you do know what it is then you understand that not having access to it can be super frustrating. I hated not being able to access my files from the server and eventually it led to some major issues (which I ultimately found gratitude in but it was rough).
I debated a lot before I opted for A Small Orange. I had heard a billion things about BlueHost and it seemed like everyone was recommending them. I’ll admit it. BlueHost is great and even WordPress recommends them as a top host. I do not have a single reason not to host with them although I didn’t love the idea of prepaying for a year of hosting up front. I prefer to pay month-to-month. It makes reconciling my books easier for me.
I settled on A Small Orange and they have been fantastic!
Right now I’m on the small plan and it’s only $5 a month. It more than meets my current needs and traffic. Not to mention that upgrading is super easy if I ever need to upgrade to a bigger plan. They also allow me to easily access my cPanel which, as I mentioned above, is the greatest thing in the world for someone like me.
The biggest thing though, to me, is that they offer 24-hour online chat support.
Seriously. If you’re anything like me and you’re regularly up at 1am or 2am working on your blog or website you need access to these support “ninjas” at 1am or 2am. What good does it to me to host with someone who’s only available for support from 8am – 5pm if I’m not working until 2am? I’ve reached out to A Small Orange on social media, through online chat, via e-mail and via telephone; each and every time they have been incredible! Would you believe I’ve never waited longer than 30 seconds for someone to respond to an online chat inquiry? Never.
Customer Service is the #1 reason why I leave the company but it’s also the best way a company can earn my love and loyalty. That’s how A Small Orange did it. They rock!
If you’re looking for a new web host (or a first web host) you won’t be disappointed by them.
Where do you host your blog or website? Why do you love / hate them?
