Tin Lizzy’s Cantina

A restaurant review of flex mex restaurant Tin Lizzy's Cantina in Atlanta, Georgia

The other night I had such a craving for margaritas and queso! If you read my 25 questions introduction the other day you know how much I love queso and after the few days I had just gone through, I felt I deserved a margarita (or two). When I told Brandon I wanted a margarita his immediate response was, “Tin Lizzy’s?” Really though, he didn’t have to ask. he knew that’s where I wanted to go.

Tin Lizzy’s Cantina at the Perimeter in Atlanta, Georgia is one of our favorite local places for dinner. We are there at least a couple of times per month and it’s absolutely our go-to for flex mex or margaritas. I’m not typically one to drink but I can’t ever seem to resist margaritas with mexican-inspired cuisine. I know I’m not alone either because every time I post margaritas or tacos on Instagram my phone blows up from all the love. 😉

They have a drink – MAESTRO – that slays me every time. I love it!! If you ever get to Tin Lizzy’s, you have to try it. Although, I’ll confess my go-to drink is The TLC because it’s just straight margarita perfection.

We always start with their Three Amigos appetizer because it’s sort of impossible to choose between their guacamole, salsa, and queso. You can choose to get the salsa as either spicy, mild, or verde and the queso is either queso blanco or queso con carne. We always go with the spicy salsa and queso blanco. Their mild salsa is just a bit too mild for us and again, my husband is a vegetarian so the queso con carne is always off the table.

If you order an appetizer at Tin Lizzy’s, you need to wait a good 15 – 20 minutes before you order your entree because they serve their food very quickly and you’ll barely have touched your app before your meal arrives. I mean, do what you want but when you’re sitting there with your dinner and you’ve barely touched your entree, you’ll learn.

As for the menu, they don’t have a lot of options for vegetarians which is kind of a bummer because you can do A LOT with vegetarian flex mex. I kind of feel like they just got a little lazy when it came to veggie options but my husband doesn’t complain. He always eats the veggie tacos and a cantina salad so, that plus their guac and he’s just a happy man. It doesn’t take much to make him happy.

I tend to bounce around the menu. They have amazing skillets there! They have one, the Cowboy Skillet, and it’s TO-DIE-FOR. It has fried chicken, bacon, black beans, TL signature hot sauce, queso, blue cheese crumbles, fresh jalapeños and diced avocado; it’s absolutely irresistible! Seriously, you have to try it. During my last visit I had the fried chicken tacos which are fried chicken, bacon-cilantro slaw and honey chipotle sauce. I order them because I love the bacon-cilantro slaw and honey chipotle sauce. I could actually just eat a plateful of that and leave the chicken because that slaw is just perfection! It’s sweet and creamy without being sloppy. Just, SO good. Sometimes I add fresh diced jalapenos to my tacos. There is no extra charge for jalapenos and they give those sweet tacos just a bit of extra kick which I love.

This is easily one of my favorite places in Atlanta. It’s always full but it’s never overwhelming or too noisy. The atmosphere is fun, the staff is fabulous, and the food and drinks are always on point. I’ve been here dozens of times and seriously, it’s just so, so good!

If you’re ever in, around, or passing through Atlanta, you have to stop in for a bite.

Do you like flex mex cuisine? What your favorite mexi-inspired restaurants?
