The Easiest Way to Good Dental Health for Your Dog (Giveaway!)

Take care of your pets with these little snacks which are the easiest way to provide your dog with good dental health!

A huge thank you to Greenies for providing my pups with snacks to keep their teeth sparkling clean! Thank you to my readers for supporting the brands that support Far Beyond Love.

Did you know that February is National Pet Dental Health Month? I didn’t until I took my pups to the vet at the beginning of the month and found myself on the receiving end of a polite lecture about how one of my dogs is starting to show a bit of tartar and other build up on his teeth. I was advised to immediately begin cleanings at least 3x a week and to provide him with chew toys and bones that are specifically designed to clean teeth.

When I got home from that appointment I immediately hopped online and began looking at ways to care for my dog’s teeth because the last thing I want on my hands in a few years is a 9-year old toothless dog (although if I did have a 9-year old toothless dog I’d keep him and love him just the same because, #family). One of the brands that I found which offered pet snacks for good dental health for your dog was Greenies so I reached out to their PR department to see if they would be interested in providing a few Greenies snacks for my pups. They happily sent over a few bags so we could try them out and, of course, my dogs gobbled them down like they were made of bacon!

So….where’d you hide the Greenies?

I called my vet about using Greenies and she told me she recommends them to pet owners whose pets have mild dental concerns such as tartar buildup, plaque, and bad breath (which my dogs have in spades!) My vet assured me that my dogs fish-breath is more about breed / food than it is about any serious health risks, bad breath in your dog can be a sign of serious health problems and you should consult your vet about it. If you don’t address it, it could lead to not only damaged teeth and gums but also their internal organs. If you’ve been around Far Beyond Love for a while you’ll know that last year my dog had a tumor which absolutely terrified us! It was benign (thankfully) but it’s not something you want to deal with, I promise.

Why Greenies?

The Greenies dog (and cat, for you cat people) products have received accolade including:

  • GREENIES™ are the #1 vet-recommended dental chews and treats (in pet specialty stores, among U.S. veterinarians who recommend dental chews for at-home oral care)
  • GREENIES™ PILL POCKETS® Treats are the #1 vet-recommended choice for giving pills (Data on file, The Nutro Company 2013)
  • GREENIES™ Dental Chews were the first treat to receive the VETERINARY ORAL HEALTH COUNCIL Seal of Acceptance for control of plaque and tartar buildup.

Greenies dog snacks are the easiest way to ensure good dental health for your dog.

What I love most about the Greenies snacks is that the ridges in the snack actually get in there and clean so I don’t have to brush their teeth quite as often. If you’ve ever tried to brush a dog’s teeth then you know that is it NOT a fun experience! They hate the brush and the doggie toothpaste. They hate you trying to hold their mouth open. They just hate the whole experience and with Greenies I find that I only have to fight that battle 2x – 4x a month rather than 2x – 4x a week. WIN!

My dogs have been spoiled and have learned that they get a small treat after every walk so I have simply replaced their treat with a Greenie snack in the evening. They think they are getting a bigger reward when really they are getting a nightly teeth cleaning. 😉

We still have a ways to go but we are seeing progress!

Greenies dog snacks are the easiest way to ensure good dental health for your dog.

If you aren’t currently using Greenies to keep up good dental health habits for you dogs, I can’t recommend them highly enough. My vet loves them and my dogs love them so I consider that a total good health victory!

Greenies are available online or in your local pet specialty store.

Do you have pets? How often do you concern yourself with their dental care? Do you brush their teeth yourself or do you use Greenies? For the giveaway – tell me about your pet!
