Shark Rocket with DuoClean Review (the Pros and Cons)

I recently added a Shark Rocket with DuoClean to my cleaning closet and it's a powerful little vacuum alright! Read my Shark Rocket with DuoClean review for all of the pros and cons of this powerful vacuum.

Thank you to Shark Ninja for providing me with a complimentary Shark Rocket with DuoClean. This post includes affiliate links which help support FBL.

A few weeks ago I picked up a new Shark Rocket with DuoClean because my old vacuum decided to finally call it quits. It hadn’t been working properly for at least 6 months but I chose to willfully ignore it. The old machine wasn’t really sucking up dirt anymore and had developed that annoying habit of leaving a tiny line of dirt and dust on the tile floors. It’s not entirely to blame though, the carpet brush was so completely wrapped up in the thousands of strands of hair that the dogs and I seem to shed every day that it didn’t stand a chance.

I wanted to clean the carpet brush roller and see if I could squeeze another few months of life out of the old machine, but I hated feeling like I needed a degree in engineering just to get the brush out of the machine. It wasn’t worth it, besides I really despised that old massive tank of a vacuum cleaner so I decided to toss it. #GoodRiddance

After talking with the wonderful folks at SharkNinja, they offered to send me their Shark Rocket with DuoClean model to try out. They were convinced that I would love it and that it would do the job cleaning up after the two of us and our two constantly-shedding dogs. It’s been just over a week and I’ve been vacuuming every single day so that I could really test it out before sharing the pros and cons of it with you.

Quick cleaning tips including a review of the Shark Ninja with DuoClean which should be a housecleaning must-have!

The Shark Rocket with DuoClean vacuum is deceptively light and compact. I scoffed at first thinking that there was no way it was going to be powerful enough to clean my carpets of all of the dust, pet dander, hair, and dirt that was embedded into my floors. I told my husband, “There is absolutely no way this tiny thing gets these carpets clean.” Well, the joke was on me because when I turned it on for the first time, the suction was so strong that it actually started lightly pulling me forward so power is definitely not the issue.

There’s more but first…

The Pros of the Shark Rocket with DuoClean

  • Compact yet powerful
  • Bagless with easy-to-empty dust cup
  • Easy to clean carpet bristle brush roller
  • Dual-brush system for cleaning carpet and hard flooring surfaces
  • Versatile accessories (including pet hair brush)

The Shark Rocket with DuoClean has some serious power in its tiny little frame and it digs up deep dirt from your carpet. The first time I vacuum our entryway and living room I had to empty the dust cup twice and I had just cleaned with my old vacuum 2 days earlier. I thought I was just running the Shark Rocket with DuoClean over the floors for a quick run to feel it out so I didn’t expect it to dig up so much. I was stunned (and a bit ashamed) over how dirty my carpets obviously were. It was all dust and dog hair which explained why my allergies seemed to be so much worse this year. I had to empty the dust cup again after cleaning the dining room and twice more as I vacuumed the bedrooms. I mean, you think your home is clean and then you use something like this and you realize you were sitting on a throne of lies.

The real test for me though was how easy it was to empty the dust cup and clean the bristle brush roller that digs in and cleans up the carpet. As I said earlier, between me and two shedding dogs, a lot of hair gets wrapped around the bristle brush in vacuums and it’s often a total pain-in-the-you-know-what to clean it. I’ve had vacuums in the past that required the use of a tiny screwdriver and three assistants to even get to the brush so ease-of-cleaning is kind of a big deal for me. The Shark Rocket with DuoClean makes it ridiculously simple to empty the cup and to clean the bristle brush under the machine.

To empty the dust cup, you literally push two little buttons to remove the cup then push the button to open the canister when you have it over the trash bin. The dust, hair, and other dirt falls right out and into the garbage where it belongs. When you need to clean the bristle brush (like I do after every single pass over the carpets) simply press the Brush Roll Access button on the top of the head and lift out the brush. It’s literally that easy. The brush lifts right now and you can cut the hair or string right off of it. Then, just pop the brush back in. It’s like a 30-second clean with no extra hands or tools required. Being honest that alone is the only thing I need in order to sell me on this vacuum. Unless you deal with it, you just don’t know the struggle that is shedding hair!

Shark Rocket with DuoClean review

It seems like I can vacuum my home every day (like I have for the past 10 days) and still find dirt, dust, and dog hair that needs to be sucked up. It’s really disgusting if I’m being honest with you and I had no idea how deep the dirt went until I started using this vacuum. I used to vacuum 2x a week and while my old vacuum was sucking up dirt it didn’t come anywhere near pulling out the deep grime that the Shark Rocket with DuoClean seems to find.

But, it’s not all sunshine and roses so let’s talk about the cons.

The Cons of the Shark Rocket with DuoClean

  • Top heavy while in use
  • Small dust cup

While neither of the cons are deal-breakers to me, there are a few things about the Shark Rocket with DuoClean that should be mentioned and the biggest one is that it’s a bit top heavy while in use making it awkward for some people to use. When the vacuum isn’t in use, the motor sits on a little hook which allows the motor and dust cup to sit on the head for balance and easy storage. When it is in use, the motor and dust cup is lifted and attached to the top of the vacuum handle. While this model makes it very easy and compact to store, it does make it a bit top heavy and awkward for some kids and petite users to navigate. I’m 5’2″ and don’t have any struggles with it but I imagine that someone smaller might struggle with the unbalanced weight distribution.

The top heavy weight distribution while in use also means that you can’t stop vacuuming and leave the Shark Rocket with DuoClean standing upright because it will fall over. The problem is easily solved by leaning it against something (a wall, a corner, a piece of furniture) or by resting the motor on the hook above the head (like I d0) which takes all of like 2 seconds. It is NBD to me because it’s so easy to click a button, unattach the motor, and sit it down but the first time Brandon used it he said, “So, you can’t just let it stand here for a second without it falling over?”

I showed him how easy it is to sit the motor down separately or lean it into a corner and the problem was solved.

Shark Rocket with DuoClean review

The dust cup that sits nestled in the motor head fills up fast! Now, maybe it’s just me and the bounty of dust, pet dander, and hair that I have in my home or maybe the dust cup is small as I’ve seen others claim. I know I empty it at least once, sometimes twice, per room and I am vacuuming at least 3x – 4x per week. It’s so easy to empty that it doesn’t bother me a bit especially since I know that it just means that it’s really cleaning but if you’re the kind of person that wants one large dust cup or bag that can hold multiple rooms, this may not be for you.

I have spent far more money on a vacuum and been less satisfied with my purchase. The Shark Rocket with DuoClean is deceptively powerful and an absolutely fabulous investment for your home. See more specs and details on Amazon.
