Ever since Brandon and I moved to Atlanta a few years ago it has felt like our master bedroom was put on the back-burner. It was always about finishing our living room (which still isn’t done), finding a new dining room table, or getting the guest bedroom ready for the company that was planning to come down and stay with us now that we live in a city worth visiting. The master bedroom was always “good enough” and would be finished “some day” which drove me insane until I finally had enough and said “some day is TODAY” and got to work updating and finishing our room.
Despite having dogs, I wanted our bedroom to be clean and romantic. I believe that rooms have a definitive purpose and the purpose of the master bedroom is romance and rest so I wanted everything in our room to portray that. Brandon on the other hand, didn’t necessarily agree. He thought I was a bit crazy for thinking I could maintain a white bedroom with two dogs. He may be right if the dry cleaning receipts are any indication but I’m still glad I did it. 😉
I was instantly drawn to the Avery 7-piece Comforter Set from Lush Decor bedding because it was absolutely gorgeous! It looked so plush and soft with ruffles and sequins that added the perfect amount of delicate romance to the room. I was in love the moment I saw it and fortunately Brandon simply said, “If you love it, I love it” although I was planning to get it whether he loved it or not. 😉
I also opted to add the matching ruffled curtains in white which is absolutely gorgeous in the morning when the sunrise peeps through our bedroom window. The curtains are really sheer so they are more of a filter than actual curtains.
I would normally add heavier blackout shades and really do it up on that wall but since we are leasing our place I didn’t want to put too many holes in the walls so I left it as-is for now. As soon as we buy a home though, I’ll have layers upon layers of curtains!
I also refinished an old cabinet I had purchased from Target. I removed the doors, painted the whole cabinet white, and added baskets of toiletries and extra blankets to fill up the shelves. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it at first but once it all came together I loved it. It makes the room feel more open and inviting.
I snagged a white and silver mirror at HomeGoods (#steal $25!) and shocked Brandon when I bought it home. I’m actually quite terrified of mirrors which I know is ridiculous but it’s true. We watch A LOT of horror movies and it seems like every single time there is a mirror in a horror movie something bad happens in it. There is a spirit that appears behind someone, a weird transformation happens to the person looking at it, something jumps out of it, etc. and it just creeps me out. The idea of sleeping in a room with a mirror? NO WAY! I just couldn’t resist how perfect that mirror is and I wanted it so I’m just going to have to put my big girl pants on and learn to deal with it.
I’m still waiting on my new headboard (waiting 8+ weeks now which is ridiculous!) but once it arrives the room will be finished and perfect. I can’t wait to see it all finally come together.
