A lot of you have asked me about my skincare routine and favorite products lately, especially since I sent my most recent reader survey. I’m hearing you tell me that you know I don’t use a heavy amount of makeup but that I am into skincare and you wish I’d share more about it. So, I’m here today to talk about my current favorite mask, the L’oreal Paris Exfoliate & Refine Pores Pure-Clay Mask.

I picked this mask up on impulse when I was in Target about a month or two ago and I’ve used it 3x a week ever since. I even convinced my husband to use it a couple of times (win!) and even he admitted that his face felt pretty incredible after he washed it off.
Clay masks are one of my favorite skincare products and I’ve used them since I was in my early teens. I hate the idea of covering my face with a lot of make-up, which goes back to my first Homecoming dance in high school so it’s story time for just a second…
When I was 14, I went to my first high school homecoming dance. My mom and I had gone shopping and found this beautiful black dress and she took me to have both my hair and make-up done for the big night. She knew how special a first homecoming dance is! So, I arrive at the dance and I met a boy (so cute!). We danced together a few times and omg, my little teenage heart! Well, the following Monday I’m at school and I see him so I run up to say hello and…he had no idea who I am. ::Heartbreak:: Apparently, he didn’t recognize me without all of that make-up on! It ended up not being a big deal and he’s a great friend to this day but that was a moment that kind of changed my perspective on make-up.
Since I don’t use a lot of make-up, I do focus on keeping my skin as clean as possible. My morning make-up routine is usually just moisturizer, primer, concealer, light foundation, mascara, and a lip shimmer. It’s my evening routine that takes the longest. When I use this mask (which I do 3x a week), I just wash lightly before applying it because a deep scrub plus an exfoliating mask can be too harsh. I put this mask on kind of thick and it takes about 15 – 20 minutes to dry completely.
After 15 – 20 minutes, just wash it off with warm water and slowly scrub in circular motions while you rinse. Your skin instantly feels cleaner and healthier!
I do need to add two things here real quick. First, it can be a bit tingly when you first put it on so don’t be surprised if you feel that sensation in the beginning. If you feel a burning sensation you should rinse it off immediately but a light tingling feeling is normal. Second, it can be a little bit drying so if you have dry skin (like I tend to do) then you need to follow this with a good moisturizer or night cream.
I use the ultra calming nourishing night cream from Aveeno in the evenings to calm any irritation or dryness.
Are you ready to give it a try? At less than $10, it’s a definite steal! See more details here.
