This time of year I see so many posts offering advice about how to prepare your home for visitors (and that is really important) but it’s just as important to spend time preparing yourself. Holidays are prime time for photo ops since you just know you’ll be taking pictures with family, friends, kids, and “action shots” like wrapping gifts, cooking, site-seeing, etc.

With the hundreds of pictures you’re going to be in, you want to make sure you invest the time in being photo-ready.

The holidays are here! Take care to make yourself photo ready. Here’s what you do…

Cut and Color Your Hair

I’ve had gray hairs sprouting since I was 15 so I have to color my hair now every 4 – 6 weeks. I always make an appointment to have my hair cut and colored a few days before company arrives so my color looks fresh, my cut is crisp, and I feel like I look my best in photos.

Tip: Don’t try a new color before company arrives. If it’s a mess you don’t want to have photo proof of it for years to come. The same applies to a new cut or style. Brand new bangs just before Christmas? Bad idea. You may not love it but you’ll be rocking the look in photos forever.

Find your Favorite Make-up Look and Whiten your Teeth

Before my family arrived for a visit I bought a bit of new make-up and experimented with a few different looks for photos. I tried different eyeshadows, eyeliners, and lip colors and took about a hundred selfies to see how they looked in a photo. I then picked up a box of Crest 3D White WhiteStrips at Wal-Mart. They are currently running a BOGO sale so you get a free box for every box your purchase (which was perfect so both myself and my husband were able to use them to get ready). When my mom arrived I found out she actually uses them too (so the secret is out in my family). They are just so easy to use and work so quickly, I should have known she’d know about it.

I dig the strips because they can remove years of stains (like the stains left behind from that deliciously amazing coffee) in about an hour. The Crest 3D White WhiteStrips also use an Advanced Seal Technology no-slip grip which stays in place so you can talk and drink water while you’re whitening your teeth.

So, using the same enamel-safe teeth whitening ingredients dentists use I was able to whiten my teeth, find a bangin’ red lipstick (from Loreal) to make my white teeth really pop in photos. Want to try the Crest 3D White WhiteStrips? Get your BOGO order here.

Find a Photo-Worthy Style

I have a few photos from past holidays that I’m not proud of, especially when it comes to style. At the time it was trendy, popular, or cool but looking at the pictures now I cringe at my outfits. Now, during the holidays I try to make sure I’m wearing something pretty timeless. I want to be proud of my photos in 2 years, 5 years, 10 years, etc. I combed through my wardrobe to find a few of my favorite pairs of denim, sweaters, and scarves that were basic wardrobe staples. My black and white polka dot sweater from Stitch Fix is one of my favorites and my black Edgar Allen Poe scarf was a Christmas gift from my mom last year. I was warm, comfortable, and my style is classic enough that I can display photos from this year’s trip for many Christmases to come.

Go through your wardrobe and find a few favorite staple pieces that aren’t so super trendy that you’re going to regret them in a few years.
