Friday Favorites #9 (Road Trip Soundtrack)

It’s kind of tradition that whenever we head off on a road trip we start the trip with a little song. It starts before we even leave the parking garage. We always sing:

On the road again, Just can’t wait to get on the road again The life I love is making music with my friends, And I can’t wait to get on the road again
On the road again, Goin’ places that I’ve never been Seein’ things that I may never see again, And I can’t wait to get on the road again
On the road again, Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway We’re the best of friends, Insisting that the world keep turning our way
On the Road Again – Johnny Cash / Willie Nelson
After that we always default to one of the soundtracks that my husband has put together for our trip. We listen to vastly different music. He prefers Rap / Hip-Hop / EDM and I prefer Rock / Alternative / Metal although we both agree we can listen to anything from the 80’s – today.
On this road trip my husband ruled the airwaves so there was a lot of Eazy-E, Eminem, Slaughterhouse, etc coming through the speakers. I dug it but if I had planned the road trip playlist it would have looked a little bit like this:

I knew my husband was going to have to listen to the Country Bear Jamboree, It’s a Small World, and Pirates Life for Me at least a few times while we were at the Magic Kingdom so I happily turned over the road trip playlist to him on the way to Florida.

He was a good sport (then again, when he napped he had no idea what I turned on the radio *wink*) plus his playlist is always high energy and there’s no doubt that’s a total bonus when you’re on a long drive. The road can really lull you to sleep if you’re not careful.

East Bound and Down isn’t particularly a song that either of us love but it never fails that at some point during the trip we will turn east on a road and both of us will start singing, ‘East bound and down…loaded up and truckin! We gonna do what they say can’t be done…’ so i figured we might as well go ahead and just put it on the list.

Our next road trip is planned for September and we’re heading out to California for about a week or so. I’m already looking for California music.

So far this is what I have:

California Love – 2Pac

California – Hollywood Undead

California Gurls – Katy Perry

Dani California – Red Hot Chili Peppers

I’m still seeking out other songs for this playlist and I’m open to all genres. I’m looking for anything focused on California, West Coast, the beach/coast, or traveling.

If you have any recommendations, send ’em my way!
