Last week Brandon and I decided to do a casual date night of Barnes & Noble and the Starbucks cafe inside. The Starbucks cafe inside of the Barnes & Noble near us features desserts from The Cheesecake Factory and other places nearby so it’s a great place to go for a quick treat. Brandon wanted to buy a copy of Unscripted by Ernie Johnson Jr. but it took me forever to decide. In the end I settled on buying Girl In Disguise by Greer MacAllister because I loved her book The Magician’s Lie and have been waiting and waiting for her next novel. I also scanned about two dozen new books into the Goodreads app and added them to my “To-Read” shelf for later.
I had no idea the rabbit hole that was going to take me down.
When we got home I went on to my GoodReads account to review the books I’d scanned, read some early reviews, remove any I decided not to read, and organize the others on to my GoodReads shelves. That is where I ran into a problem. I realized my GoodReads shelves were a complete disorganized mess. I had a shelf for Textbooks (who reviews those??), a shelf for BookSneeze (a site I used to get books from years ago), and a bunch of other miscellaneous or ridiculous ones. I wanted to clean them up but I couldn’t figure out how to delete shelves on GoodReads. It took me forever and I’m kind of ashamed to admit that but I’m sure I’m not alone which is why I decided to share this quick tutorial. 😉
To delete shelves on Goodreads, it’s literally 3 steps. It’s very easy but for some reason the steps weren’t intuitive for me. Once I finally figured out how to do it, I spent the next hour creating new shelves and sorting through the hundreds of book in my Goodreads library appropriately. I also spent about 30 minutes entering giveaways I’ll never win and researching new ARCs I’ll probably never request but I was in a bookish mood so that’s what I did.
If you want to delete shelves on Goodreads and clean up your own profile, just follow these simple steps (and come be my friend on Goodreads).
1 // Click My Books in the top menu bar.
2 // Click edit next to bookshelves.
3 // Click the X next to a shelf to delete it.
That’s it! Now, create and organize your new Goodreads shelves as needed. 🙂
