6 Tailwind Tribes That Helped Me Grow My Blog

If you haven't joined any Tailwind Tribes to help expand your reach and grow your audience through Pinterest then you're missing out on one of the top tools for bloggers. Here are the 6 Tailwind Tribes that helped me grow my blog and I think you should join them asap.

I felt so late to the Tailwind party when I first joined the platform about a month or so ago. I’d been hearing about it for almost a year but never bothered to sign up for it because I was already over-extended on my blog expense budget and the last thing I wanted to do was add one more item to the list. I’d been going through a stage of purging items and paying for fewer subscriptions so the idea of paying for Tailwind didn’t make sense. I kept putting it off until one of the bloggers in Positive Bloggers United (a Facebook group run by Christine of Simply Stine) shared her referral link which offered a free month to anyone interested in trying out the service. I signed up to try it out and almost immediately realized it was a subscription that needed to go on my no-way-in-hell-am-I-getting-rid-of-this-service list.

You can get a free month of Tailwind to try out for yourself right here.

Pinterest was already one of my top traffic referrers (second only to search engine traffic) but within a week of using Tailwind it surpassed search engine traffic and more than doubled the number of visitors it was sending my way. If I saw those kinds of results in one week I could only imagine what would happen in a month, or three months, or a year. I prepaid for the service for a year and started working on implementing a strategy that would best serve my blog over the months ahead (posts about how I use Tailwind, what my schedule looks like, and what intervals I use for pinning are coming up soon).

The Tailwind dashboard gives you insight into how your strategy is working but the most important thing to note is that it only works if you do. If you’re not taking the time to sit down and actually schedule your pins you’re not going to see the growth that you want to see. From this image here you can see I received 288 repins in a week but it was down from my average of 529 (my fault for not scheduling any pins), my domain pins were at 11 which was up from the 0 the week before (again, my fault) but I gained 80 new followers. Whoop!

Once I had my account set-up and everything on my own Pinterest profile was optimized I started looking into Tailwind Tribes. I had heard about them but I hadn’t bothered to look at them even though you do not need a Tailwind account to use them. Anyone with a Pinterest account can use Tailwind Tribes although I’m not entirely certain how it works if you’re not on Tailwind. Still, they say it’s possible and if you want to try it out, be my guest.

Once I knew I wanted to start digging into Tailwind Tribes I posted in a couple of my favorite blogging Facebook groups and started searching Pinterest for Tailwind Tribe recommendations. In that first week I probably joined and left at least 25 – 30 different tribes because some are more active and engaged than others. Plus, you want to try to find tribes that are related to your blogging categories to maximize your reach and odds of being pinned and repinned. It’s also important to pay attention to the tribe rules so that you don’t get kicked out for being a party pooper and not playing nice in the sandbox.

Using Tailwind Tribes has helped me expand my reach by over 2,000,000 new people (not all of which have visited / subscribed / repinned / etc my blog but it’s still nice to know you were in front of their eyes. Currently Pinterest drives 67% of all of my traffic so I’d definitely say it’s worth investing in.

These are the 6 Tailwind Tribes I’m loving right now…
